With Resistentia Sonora Mediterranea, we set out to map the contemporary musical landscape of the Mediterranean — a region shaped by shared histories, present-day struggles, and a rich web of cultural exchange. From Marseille, where our label is based, the connections with Morocco, Algeria, and Tunisia are part of the city’s pulse — as are those with Lebanon, Palestine, and Egypt.

These links are organic, built on lived realities, artistic affinities, and political movements that transcend borders.

In early 2024, we reached out to artists from various Mediterranean diasporas — some based in Marseille, others spread across the region — to contribute to the compilation, offering a snapshot of their current artistic vision and reflections, rooted in the idea of music as a form of resistance.
Not resistance as a slogan, but as a practice — a way of making, sharing, and surviving through sound.

The creation of the compilation was also aligned with the artists’ own timelines, shaped by the challenges of creating under — and responding to — the ongoing impact of war and conflict.

This is not a curated “scene” or a unified aesthetic. Instead, Resistentia Sonora Mediterranea brings together diverse musical forms — from rap, techno, trap, bass and dubstep, to noise, electro or chaabi.

An experience where sound becomes a new territory and a space of total freedom, without borders or compromise.

Each track stands on its own, yet they all carry a shared urgency, a collective refusal to be confined.

Fulu Miziki returns with a powerful new single “Tia Mungwa Na Biloko” — Lingala for “Mama puts salt in the dish”. Much more than a title, it's a metaphor for the band’s mission: just as salt gives flavor to food, their music is crafted to infuse life with joy, strength, freedom and resilience.

Written by Daniel Bekila Delton and Bosele Bokungako Pitschou, both core members of the group, the track is a reflection on 2022 — a year of resistance and perseverance. Despite attempts to silence them, Fulu Miziki emerged stronger, channeling their energy into this vibrant, defiant anthem. The song is a celebration of resilience, a sonic declaration of unwavering positive energy in the face of adversity.

Each member of Fulu Miziki is a beatmaker and sound artisan, contributing to a collective sound that draws from a rich mix of styles and traditions. Their music carries urgent, hopeful messages — calls for unity, peace, collective liberation, and a passionate encouragement to the youth: work hard, keep going, and believe in yourselves.
